The return of former Serie A winning coach Gigi Radice to Torino for the 1984 - 85 season once again brought positive results for i granata. In title contention for much of the season, a run of three scoreless draws in their last four fixtures ultimately cost them their chance and the team had to settle for runners-up position behind Verona.

Newcomers Aldo Serena and the Brazilian, Junior, both had strong seasons and scored 16 goals between them, with the Austrian forward Walter Schachner contributing a further seven. Experienced players like Claudio Sclosa, Giovanni Francini and Giuseppe Dossena all added know-how to this solid and well-organised group.
